Stainless Steel Thimbles

Heart Shaped Stainless Steel Thimbles

Thimbles can be used in many applications such as cranes, elevators and winches. As they are ideal for use with high performance steel wire rope, they are widely used in the marine sector. Thimbles are a great choice for use in harsh environments and can deal with both light and heavy-duty applications.

Types of Thimbles

Thimbles come in various materials such as pressed steel, stainless steel and plastic. They usually have a polished, cast, untreated, galvanised, painted or electro-plated finish depending on the environment they are to be used in.

Stainless steel thimbles can be installed inside the steel wire rope loop. They help to protect the cable from pinching and abrading on the inside of the loop. The use of thimbles in loops is industry best practice.

A4-AISI 316 grade stainless steel thimbles are to be used with stainless steel wire ropes.

Sizes available from to suit 2mm, 3mm, 4mm, 5mm, 6mm, 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 16mm, 20mm, 22mm, and 24mm diameters stainless steel wire ropes.

Once fitted, it commonly known as a steel wire rope hard eye or eyelet.

These stainless steel thimbles are for use with steel wire rope and synthetic ropes. They are inserted inside the loop/eye to preserve the natural shape of the loop and protect the rope from damage. Thimbles are used to create a hard eye in wire rope ends, the wire rope is feed around the thimble and looped back onto itself.

  • For reinforcing cable eyes
  • For preventing wear on the wire rope
  • Recommended wire rope: 7×7 or 7×19

Note: Not suitable for wire cable 1 x 19

Always match your thimble to the same size wire rope, Example 5mm thimble = 5mm wire rope.
